AMSA Calls for Submissions to Update The Men’s Studies Syllabus Project
As part of its goal to promote the academic study and teaching of men and masculinities, AMSA is making available syllabi used in Men’s Studies Courses for download.
As part of its mission, the American Men’s Studies Association has collected men’s studies course syllabi as a resource for people who are developing a course or looking at what is taught in the field. The first collection was made in hard copy by Sam Femiano in 1985 and, for many years, circulated throughout the United States and Canada. That collection became obsolete and a directory of men’s studies courses was published by Sam Femiano for several years until it was transferred to the University of New Hampshire for about three years in the mid 90’s. No syllabi were attached but interested people could contact the course teachers directly.
We invite everyone who is teaching to contribute to the site. It is intended to be a resource for the men’s studies community.
To participate in this project by adding your syllabus to this collection, contact Mark Justad, AMSA Director of Communications

Hey,
I sent a half dozen or so from the Changing Men collections (CMC) and they used to be on the web poage.
Where are they?
This page needs to be updated as it still say to send to Sam.
A year or so ago I copied the rest of the syllabii in CMC and mailed them to Sam. He asked about electroinic copies and I advised that I did not have electronic copies and requested he send the hard copies to Robert to put on the web page.
What happened to this second set of syllabii?
Ed,
The syllabi project has not been active for some time. The board will probably discuss this at the meeting in Atlanta.
Mark
Mark,
What happened to the ones that were on the web page?
Hi Mark,
The information above, if accurte, is incomplete.
There are 5 editions of Sam’s collection os syllani in CMC at MSU.
Those editions are 1083, 1986, 1991, 1993, & 1994.
So the information is incomplete in that copies are still available for researchers to use on site or order through inter-library loan.
Ed
Ed,
Let’s see if I understand what you are saying. Printed copies of collections of syllabi (the five years you mention) are held by the CMC at MSU? Individuals might review these in person or order through inter-library loan? Is there any way to know what is in each year’s collection? And which inter-library loan system are we talking about?
I’ll chime in with the little I know. The syllabi that were posted on the old webpage are still available in my files, but they were not re-posted when the new website was created. I have been waiting for this to be worked out by the board and the new Teaching Men’s Studies Affinity Group. I did re-post this call as I had it when we completely redid the site to its new format. However, as webmaster I never received any more from Sam than the ones posted. His illness kept him from attending to this matter. He intended to continue with it, assuming he could one day, but that, alas, did not happen.
