The Third International Conference on Masculinities in the UK and the US, 1945 to the present will concentrate on the topic “Bodies, Systems, Structures” will take place June 13-15, 2012 at Dresden University of Technology in Dresden, Germany.
This conference will explore masculinity across a distance/difference between the systemic and the corporeal, the abstract and the concrete. Our comparative focus will be masculinities in the US and/or the UK since World War II: a period in which differentiated masculinities proliferate for specifically national and transnational reasons, including global waves of decolonization, changing patterns of migration, the emergence of ‘new‘ subaltern subjects demanding social, cultural, and political recognition, as well as conservative reactions against these developments.
Opening lectures will be by Michael Kimmel, Walter Erhart, and Brigitte Georgi-Findlay.
The Conference is free and open to the public. It organizers are Prof. Dr. Stefan Horlacher, Dresden University of Technology; and Prof. Kevin Floyd, Kent State University.
